Sanctity of Human Life and Biblical Sexuality –
John Tabor
One of the primary trainings Unite 4 Africa offers is training on the Sanctity of Human Life and Biblical Sexuality. With hundreds of trainings accomplished, “The Journey of the Life Giver” is primarily given through story telling (orality). It is almost universally greeted with, “no one has ever taught us this before…now that we know God’s heart we will never be the same.”
The trainings are primarily geared for teaching church leaders so that they can in-turn teach their congregations and others in their community and neighboring communities.
However, it also fits well as curriculum within U4A’s CHE initiatives. It is a ‘multiplication’ approach – training those who will train others and thus it is having a tremendous impact in Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia particularly.
The trainings give recipients who have few opportunities to hear life-giving options when faced with unplanned pregnancies information they need to make life-giving decisions. With over 42 million lives lost around the world every year to abortion the recipients learn that they have responsibility to stand with God for life.
- They gain a Biblical worldview regarding the issue of life and learn how to be a life-giver each and every moment of their lives.
- They learn the importance of intimacy with God before impacting their communities and culture.
- They learn about God’s design for the family, human reproduction, pregnancy and fetal development.
- Time is also spent on teaching about sexually transmitted infections, abortion, after abortion and importantly, repentance and God’s forgiveness and healing after abortions.
A key question is left with each participant as part of learning how to be a life-giver: “Do I sacrifice myself for the good of the other person, or do I sacrifice the other person for the good of myself?” Another way of looking at the question is …as a redeemed believer, do I reflect God’s heart toward others through redemptive thinking, speaking, hearing , seeing and action?
Hearts and minds are being changed as a result of this teaching which is impacting communities beyond the issue of abortion to include the treatment of others throughout one’s life.
