Note from the Board-November 2017
Imagine leaving your family behind to serve Jesus in another country. You know that God has called you and you say yes, but it is emotional and difficult to leave all you know behind. Then you have to start fresh; a new language, new culture, new people. But God has called you and you said, “send me, Lord”.
This is how Okongo Samson, the founder of Unite 4 Africa, responded. Born and raised in Kenya, the Lord called him to serve in many countries including United States as a missionary. He had devoted his life to God at age 15 and has faithfully served His Lord since then.
He came to the United States and started building relationships. Out of that flowed a ministry that connects Americans with Africans in Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana and other countries. There are many people who want to be missionaries but few that go. Why? Because it cost something. It costs everything.
Okongo is the real thing. He is like the rest of us and makes mistakes, but he quickly makes his wrongs right. He loves unconditionally, especially those of us who aren’t always so loving. He uses all opportunities to share the gospel. He uses his home for guests to rent but ministers to each person that comes. He ubers and shares love with each person that gets into his car.
And then when he is “working”, he is discipling young people to grow in their faith, knowing that the next generation needs mentors to enable them to stand strong. He not only works here in the United States, but he travels back and forth to Africa with teams, bringing cultures together, and sharing the love of Christ with both in unity. He has help established many churches, schools, established family based orphans support, empowerment community projects and develops leaders that serve across this spectrum in different countries
When you are looking for a ministry to support financially or volunteer, always look at the head leadership. It will tell you everything you need to know about the ministry. And when I look at Unite 4 Africa, I see the real thing.
