Note From The Unite4Africa Board – March 2014 – Rob Rielly
Growing up in the church as a child, I had a very skewed image of missionaries. They came in to our church once or twice a year, wearing strange cloths and telling crazy stories from far away places. I figured missionaries were kind of like pastors, just a little bit more wild -like John the Baptist.
Ask your average Christian what they think of when they picture missions and you would probably get a similar answer. The truth however, is…
…that there is only one Mission and as Christians we are all called to it. As Charles Spurgeon says, “Every Christian is either a missionary or an impostor.”
God’s Mission, that we are all called to take part in, is to grow and expand His kingdom throughout the world. When we take part in reclaiming the world for His glory, at home in our community or empowering this work around the world, we are workers in His mission.
This distinction is vital to our growth in Christ. Many in the church abdicate their biblical calls to the ‘professional Christians” -the Pastors and Missionaries. Christ calls each of us individually to be an active participant on the mission field. Talking with a visiting pastor from Honduras, he rightly noted that “the lost in Honduras are going to the same hell as the lost in Tucson”.
How is God calling you to support His Mission work, both in your home community and throughout the world? Join us in the mission we are called to!
God Bless
