Ghana Update-January 2019
“And God said, let there be light: and there was light ” And God saw the light that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness” (Genesis 1:3-4)
Introduction
Once again we are blessed with the gift of a New Year through the awesome grace of God. To Him alone be the glory. As we begin this new year we pray for fresh ideas for ministry, fresh love in our marriages and families and fresh opportunities to serve the Lord through our daily engagement with humanity. We also look forward to having the light of God shine and drive out every darkness in every situation of our lives.
Women Cycle of Life Training
By the grace of God we held our first ever Women Cycle of Life Training in Northern Ghana. This was done in collaboration with the Savelugu Local Council of Churches. We were privilege to have Shyla and Jammie Trompkins facilitate the training for us. Participants right from day one to the end of the training were very active. About six of the women showed interest in undergoing further training to enable them greatly influence their families and communities.
Missions Conference
The John 10:16 Group which is coordinated by Samson organized a mission’s conference for Church Pastors and leaders to pray and to have strategies for reaching out to the other sheep shared with the participants. The organizers were blessed to have Okongo as one of the speakers at the conference.
Okongo and Shyla’s visit
Okongo Samson the president of U4A and his wife Shyla visited Northern Ghana. It was a great moment of reunion, eventful meetings and a wonderful time of mentoring. The visit offered Shyla the opportunity to be a blessing for the women in Northern Ghana through the facilitation of the Women Cycle of Life Training in Savelugu. She also had a nice time interacting with children who always wanted to bond with her whenever they had the chance.
During the visit Okongo had the privilege of speaking at a Mission’s conference organized by the John 10:16 Group which Samson Abukari is the Coordinator. It was period of sharing godly wisdom and strategies for reaching out to the lost. Participants and the leadership of the Group were thrilled to have Okongo share his worth of wisdom in missions with them.
Okongo and Shyla also had the opportunity to visit the Moglaa International Model School to have a first hand experience of progress and challenges of the school and the potential impact the school can have on the Moglaa and its surrounding communities. They also made personal cash donation to assist the school meet some of their immediate needs.
The interactions of Shyla and Okongo with the Zongo community had some great lessons not just for the Muslim community but for the Christians as well.
Celebration of Ten years of Ministry in Pong – Tamale
Rev. Silas and his wife celebrated ten years of ministry in the Pong-Tamale town. Okongo, Shayla and Samson Abukari represented U4A at the celebration to join Silas’ family and church in appreciating the goodness of God who enabled them to serve humanity in the Pong-Tamale town and its environs.
Partnership for Community Engagements
Samson Abukari and the John 10:16 Group partnered with the Great Mission World Outreach Ministry to engage three separate communities with the Gospel and the love of God. The engagement took us to chiefs, school children, women groups and health workers. Micro enterprise strategies were shared by Samson with the women.
