Note from the Board November 2015
Note from the Board – John Tabor
It’s a continual amazement to me how ‘ready’ those Unite 4 Africa ministers are to learn what Jesus has to say about…anything! Doesn’t matter what the topic is. If it is Jesus’ heart, that’s what they want to know about so that they can follow. Yes, there are bumps in the road for them too – like the influence and traditions of culture. But, generally speaking when presented with the opportunity to know more about God’s Son, they almost always opt for Christ. Here’s what’s really interesting – that goes for unbelievers as well.
It’s also a continual amazement to me, in contrast, how we, here in the West, when presented with the same opportunity, say, “oh, that’s interesting” and then proceed to do whatever. Perhaps it’s because Satan’s ‘prowling and devouring’ is so subtle that we don’t realize what’s happening to us. Or, perhaps the weeds of temptations have grown so numerous that we can’t center on what’s truly important. Then, again, it may be that we are just not hungry – hungry enough for other than what we know whether true or false. Or simply, it could be that we are just a lustful, selfish, fat and lazy lot. Hmm.
I don’t know. I do know that that’s a hard indictment but that there is an antidote – new life through Jesus Christ. When we clothe ourselves with Him our attention ceases to be on ourselves but rather is directed outward serving others. We meet people where they are so that we can build relationships that last..and, we rest in the knowledge that when we engage the enemy we are backed by that holiest, most powerful, loving God in the universe, Jesus Christ.
This is what truly is happening when Unite 4 Africa engages citizens of Africa village by village. We fight off the influences of evil with God’s truth – together. We speak God’s truth – together. We work to alleviate problems and difficulties and establish new patterns of living and thinking – together. It’s not ‘a little dab’ll do ya.’ U4A is there for the long haul – for as long as the community wants us involved in what proves to be real transformation for their community – socially, economically, emotionally and spiritually.
That’s why Unite 4 Africa is so successful. We never work alone. When we cast our nets, we recapture hope, health is restored, a path forward illuminated and Jesus proclaimed. Once transformation takes root the influence and experience of the west’s indifference has no place to go.. U4A goes to satiate their hunger bathed in prayer. They go to accompany and serve. They go to proclaim God’s truth. They go to watch God transform lives as God uses them. Won’t you join us?
