Note from the Board-July 2017
Why Missions?
Why should anyone leave the comforts of their warm, comfortable home with heat, electricity and running water to go help another? Why spend the money that takes time and effort to earn, to spend on others? The world would claim that we are crazy. Jesus said it is what He desires for us, to go and make disciples of ALL the nations. This is not a request, but a command for his children. We must share the resources we have been given with those who lack. We must share the good news that we have, with those who have not. Sometimes it doesn’t require us to go far, but sometimes it does.
Anyone who has traveled to Africa knows that they have less access to resources than those of us who are born in America. When you settle on the red soil of Africa, your life is forever changed. God will reveal to you how spiritually rich one can be, yet so physically poor. And you will never question again, sharing the resources you have been given, once you experience true physical poverty. But when you are there, you see and learn how much God wants to teach you how one can live on so little, yet have so much. When you return, you realize that the sharing wasn’t about them, it was about you. God wants us to recognize our true poverty, the poverty that we all share in Christ. The need for intimacy and dependency that we should have for our King that we don’t have because we lean on our wealth for our intimacy and dependency. We come home broken. Broken for more of Him, more of Africa and more for a life that bridges a gap between us and them. Unite for Africa is a beautiful organization that offers this bridge between the two worlds. Seek and you shall find. If you are looking for more in your relationship with your King, go to Africa with Unite for Africa. The journey will be one of no return. No return to a life of luxury, but one of complete fullness, shared with others on the other side of our beautiful world. I challenge you to bridge the gap and go.
