Owning a first copy of the bible at 82 years
It is commonly said that it’s “better late than never,” and this turned true for Phyllis, an elderly lady from Kitui. Owning a Bible is one of those things some of us would wish happened while we were still young. Phyllis was much elated to receive a copy of the Holy Bible in her vernacular. At the age of 82 years, she had a reason to rejoice that now she doesn’t have to wait to hear the Word of God only at her local church. She can now hear the word every day at the comfort of her home.
Asked if she will be reading the Bible for herself, she replied with a calm smile, “No, I have never been to school but I will have my grandchildren read the Bible for me.” Though this looks like an obstacle, it is a blessing in disguise in that at least two people will be hearing the Word at the same time: the grandchild and Phyllis. I believe that this scripture is true in many ways – “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:27)
Phyllis was in the company of others in Mbitini, Kitui County who shared the joy of being gifted with Bibles in their vernacular. This event turned out as a time of celebration and yes, Bible distribution is a noble project, enabling many to own a Bible and for some, their very first copy. We are thankful that U4A partners are delivering God’s Word, to both the hands and hearts of our people.

Empowering Girls in the Community with Dignity and Hope: Dignity Pads Outreach in Magadi Lodokilani – Kenya
Long school holidays often present challenges to many Maasai girls that could disrupt their academic pursuits. They include early marriage, increased risk of teenage pregnancy, female genital mutilation (FGM) and the lack of access to menstrual hygiene products. Recognizing this urgent need, we identified a community where such challenges were prevalent, prompting immediate action.
Thanks to our U4A partners, for distributing sanitary pads girls in the community and providing education about menstrual health and hygiene. Oltinka Community Church graciously provided the venue for the event. The initiative was aimed at promoting dignity, boosting confidence, and breaking the cycle of stigma surrounding menstruation.
We are deeply grateful to all who partner with U4A who made this outreach possible. Your generosity and commitment have transformed the lives of many girls. The smiles and gratitude expressed by the beneficiaries speak volumes of the impact the small packs of dignity pads have on them.

Raising Leaders For The Church In Africa
“Leaders are made, not born.”
Legendary football coach Vince Lombardi.
One the major challenges of the Church worldwide and especially in Africa is the scarcity of well-trained Church leaders. U4A is a part of this endeavor and we are taking this seriously. Recently, we had some leaders who graduated after two years of a concerted leadership training. Faith Family Chapel, Murang’a opened their Church facility as a venue where the leadership classes took place, facilitated by Pastor Maina and Anne Sogot.
Seven students finished their Certificate level in Transformational Church Leadership. Twenty-three others graduated with a Diploma two years ago and still some are currently pursuing Diploma and Bachelors in the same leadership course.
Jane Kamau, who was among the graduates has been regularly discipling a group of about ten new believers. She testifies of how fearful she used to be in the course of this training but now she shares God’s Word with clarity, precision and without fear.
The colorful occasion was graced by Dr. Abigail Demesi, Ph.D., the Head of the Transformational Church Leadership at the PAC University, Nairobi.

Open Air Evangelism – Mailtisa
By God’s grace and the power of the Holy Spirit we held successful evangelists meetings in Mailtisa Village, Kajiado county. Over 300 hundred people were reached with the Gospel and 4 came to the saving knowledge of Christ. After the meetings, we are receiving the news about the testimonies of conversions and healings that are taking place. Our greatest concern now is getting to the other villages around because many desire to hear the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ. The words of the Lord to His disciples resound in my ears – “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest” (Luke10:2).
There are still more of our people in Maasai-land and beyond who are ready and willing to receive and believe the Word of God. The days ahead are exciting for us as we witness the power of God to change lives and communities.

Prayer Points
- Thank God with us for the year 2024. Much has been accomplished through U4A and we trust God that in 2025, there will be multiplication of impact.
- Please pray that more believers will rise up for leadership training and be willing to learn and also raise other godly leaders.
- Pray with us that those already trained will use what they have learnt to strengthen the body of Christ in their respective placements and callings.
