Note from the Board – Jim Weisert
Our call to Make Disciples
My personal journey with God/Jesus has been a long road. I once did not believe in God/Jesus. I then began to wonder if there was a creator. Then I became a seeker. And finally a believer. I gave my life to God and received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I made that decision because I found his truth in the scriptures was undeniable. I also realized through God’s word that the journey is all about relationships.
While I was a none believer, a friend of mine, presented me with my first real introduction to Christ when he asked me to read the first four gospels of the New Testament. I did so because I enjoyed reading and hadn’t read that “history book” I told my friend. Over the two plus decades since then, as I have grown in Christ and in the knowledge of our Creator, I have tried to impress upon each person I have led to the Lord to take to heart God’s command to make disciples. Just as my friend followed this command and did with me:
Matthew 28:16-20
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
This all happens because of relationships and God wants us to be in relationship with others. God set this example in the Garden of Eden, when he came down from heaven and spent time with Adam and Eve in the garden every day. He was in relationship with Adam and Eve. And he wants the same thing with each of us. And he wants the same thing for us:
John 17:22
“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one”
And that is the work of Unite4Africa. Building relationship with the lost, hurting, and seeking. We also apply the following command in 1st Peter
1 Peter 3:15
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,”
These life changing scriptures encourage me/us to live out God’s call on our lives to “go make disciples.” But, first we need to build relationships with others, some will be like us and some will not. It’s a big and diverse world. But all people matter to our God, including your neighbors, family, and coworkers.
So we at Unite4Afriac thank each of you who have chosen to partner with us. And we ask that you share our work with your friends and family and ask them to consider joining in the work of our Lord by investing in U4A and becoming a partner as well. So together lets “Go Make Disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all his commands.”
May God bless you and yours mightily
Thank you
