Note From The Unite4Africa Board – Aug 2013 – Rob Reilly
This summer I travelled with my family to a few African countries. During this trip we had the opportunity to spend time with several ministries that are working across Africa. It was exciting to see what God is doing and to encourage those serving on the front lines.
A question that is often asked when someone is going on a mission trip is “Why are you going?”.
For me, the answer is simple. Taking family mission trips has been one of the greatest investments into the life of our family and the lives of our children. It is not for the good we can do while on the trip that justifies the cost. Certainly we could send the money and hire local workers in Africa for a fraction of the cost. No, it is for the important impact and change it has on our lives that we go. I do not believe you can go and return unchanged.
To spend time with a widow and her 4 year old child, both of whom are HIV+, sitting on the dirt floor of their mud home and not be deeply impacted is impossible. I encourage everyone to go on a mission trip, especially families, but everyone should go.
The mission trip my family took with Unite4Africa was the best investment I could have made. It has and will continue to bear fruit, especially in the lives of our children and their walk with Christ.
